Nils Svanstedt is Professor in Mathematics at the Department of Mathematical Sciences, Gothenburg University. His group studies linear and non-linear eigenvalue problems with oscillatory coefficients. The oscillations are allowed to be random and of multiscale nature. For the nonlinear eigenvalue problems (of p-Laplacian type) the homogenized problem is characterized explicitly. The group also addresses eigenvalue problems of Schrödinger type with (possibly) large oscillatory potentials. The latter has very important and fascinating applications in quantum physics.

Nils has a Doctoral Degree in Mathematics from Luleå Technical University (1992). In 1993 - 1995 he was Post Doc at the University of California, Santa Barbara. He received his Habilitation (Docent degree) in 1997.

Nils Svanstedt's research interests are nonlinear partial differential equations, mathematical homogenization theory, applied mathematics, mathematical biology and computational mathematics. For more information, see http://www.math.chalmers.se/~nilss/
