CIGENE scientists at the Norwegian University of Life Sciences (UMB) are involved in a major research project to investigate the genetic impact that salmon escaped from fish farms can have on wild salmon.
The four-year project, which has recently been awarded NOK 20 million in funding, will enable researchers to quantify the genetic effects of escapees on wild salmon populations. The research will be carried out in cooperation with the Norwegian Institute for Nature Research (NINA), under the project management of Kjetil Hindar, the Institute of Marine Research and Nofima.
