Time: Tuesday 17 February, 1015 - 1100

Place: Agricultural University of Norway - NLH, Ås, Animal Science Building, meeting room 2nd floor

Speaker: Professor Zlatko Dembic, University of Oslo

Zlatco Dembic, professor of cellular biology, immunology and microbiology at the Institute of Oral Biology, Dental Faculty, University of Oslo has been invited to Ås to give a talk on theoretical challenges related to how the

Immune system protects integrity of tissues

The immune system does not discriminate between "Self" and "Nonself", neither does it act when confronting "Danger". Rather, it reacts to disruption of tissue integrity allowing its renewal. The "integrity" hypothesis proposes three groups of signals that coordinate actions of dendritic cells and immunocytes during the initiation of the specific immune response, and suggests explanations for tolerance, memory formation, and repertoire selection, including differences from other theories.

This talk should be of interest to all those interested in mathematical modelling, molecular and cell biology
