CIGENE - Centre for Integrative Genetics - is a multi-disciplinary research centre hosted by the Norwegian University of Life Sciences (UMB) at Aas, 30 km south of Oslo. CIGENE is a genotyping core facility under the Norwegian Functional Genomics Programme. CIGENE is also partly responsible for the bioinformatics/computational services associated with the FUGE sequencing platform (http://www.cees.uio.no/research/facilities/roche454/) located at the Centre for Ecological and Evolutionary Synthesis (CEES) at the University of Oslo.
We foresee that the candidate will take responsibility - in close interaction with users as well as the R&D teams in CEES, CIGENE and the Norwegian Bioinformatics Platform – for developing a strong service base addressing a wide spectrum of computational tasks associated with analysis of data provided by the Roche/454 GS FLX sequencer. There will be opportunities for individually motivated R&D work providing this strengthens the competence base of the sequencing platform.
Qualifications:
- An educational background at minimum MSc level or the equivalent in bioinformatics and preferably statistics.
- Documented strong and relevant programming skills.
- Applicants with experience from development of bioinformatic resources will be preferred, particularly within genome or gene variant (SNP etc) analyses, but other candidates with necessary skills are also invited to apply.
- We expect candidates to be highly skilled in their field, self-motivated, eager to take the initiative, in possession of good interpersonal skills and willing to work in close collaboration with others.
